Excellent inversions practice for the ADVANCED yoga student
In his 4-minute introduction to this practice, yoga master Erich Schiffmann explains that the entire video was created by him--not only the instructing, but also the filming, editing, etc. Therefore, as with all the videos in Erich's Backyard series, there is no camera person; Erich remarks that the camera angles might be a bit off at times, but this is hardly noticeable as you move through the practice. Erich also suggests that Inversions is a "more intermediate" practice due to the inclusion of some "mildly advanced" poses. I believe he minimizes a bit here, as this session includes some quite challenging moves, but more on this later. As one might surmise from the title, Erich devotes a significant amount of time to inverted postures (approximately 21 minutes total), but this is also a full, 68-minute yoga practice, with much attention paid to the abdominals and hamstrings as well.
Erich begins the session with a 7-minute warm-up sequence which incorporates long,...
Great DVD for Adding Those Crucial, Brain Invigorating Inversions
--I am giving this DVD a five star rating because of the great content, the workout, and the quality of the instruction. The production is quite basic but it's really, really worth buying. This is the only DVD I am aware of entirely based on inversions, and it is also one of the few excellent DVD's that help a practitioner move towards intermediate/advanced levels. Why are inversions important? Brain health, and hormone regulation among two reasons. Inversions are such an important part of yoga because the great yogis like B.K.S. Iyengar teach that inversions allow our hormones to flow more easily (balancing the thyroid and adrenal gland operation for instance, assisting mood balancing, weight loss, and sustained energy), they allow circulation of blood and oxygen to the brain for increased focus, clarity, sustained mental energy, and alleviation of mental ailments and disease including depression. This increased circulation just bathes the brain in blood and oxygen. It...
Prior yoga exercise experience is a must to get the most out of this!
If you consider yourself a beginner, pass on this and get his beginner one or the Ali McGraw one. If you have some experience, buy this dvd. You will not be disappointed. There are not many dvds that will bring you from beginner to this level so it's tough to say who this is exactly for. The headstand cycle is more than 5 minutes and so is the shoulderstand. They are things to work up to because believe me this dvd is not easy. There are no sun salutations and it's not going to make you very sweaty. It does, however, get your body feeling amazing. All of the poses he does are listed on the dvd & I believe a reviewer listed them as well. His explanations are great and he really guides you into the poses perfectly. If you are new to Erich's products, you will never turn back now. He might come off a bit weird, but Erich Schiffmann has so much knowledge. Though keep your eyes closed for some stuff if you can't handle seeing part of his berries. Not sure why he didn't wear...
